Kabbelrus is a 116 year old beautifully restored Victorian establishment in De Rust, Klein Karoo. We also have a restaurant on site, Die Rooi Donkie which servers breakfast, lunch and dinner.

De Rust is situated at the foothills of the majestic Swartberg Mountain & at the entrance of Meiringspoort - the gateway to the Great ​Karoo. ​ Surrounded by deep green valleys, large and fascinating rock formations, many kinds of animal and bird life, rivers, streams, farms and typical Karoo vegetation, this is the place to find peace and relaxation...

Restaurants & novelty shops are within walking distance and tourists have a choice of different walks in and around the village.

Two-bedroom family unit with one double and two single beds. En-suite bathroom, Air conditioning, Tea and Coffee Facilities. No Smoking in Rooms. View of the Garden.

Malva Huisie - Self Catering

Comfortably furnished cottage sleeping two adults (one queen bed - no children allowed). The cottage features an en-suite bathroom, lounge and kitchenette area for self-catering and a private patio overlooking the foothills of the ​Swartberg Mountains. The Cottage is equipped with an air conditioner. No Smoking in Rooms. Views Garden.

Houtkapper - Self Catering

The Houtkapper Unit consists of 3 bedrooms, an open plan fully equipped kitchen / lounge area. A shared bathroom (shower) and a en-suite bathroom (bath) in main room. The main room has a Queen size bed. 2nd Bedroom consists of a Double Bed. 3rd Room has 2 bunker beds and 1 single bed (sleeps 5 guests). Houtkapper can accommodate max 9 guests.

Facilities include: Fully equipped kitchen with stove, fridge and coffee facilities and and outside braai area.

 

DIE ROOI DONKIE RESTAURANT IN DE RUST

Die Rooi Donkie serves delicious breakfasts, traditional Karoo cuisine and our Braai evenings are a firm favourite! 

Come and enjoy pancakes, curry and circe, pasta, burgers, roosterkoek, sosaties and a variety of desserts and home baked goods.

• Out of season we are open from Thursday to Saturday from 08:00 to 12:00
• In season we are open everyday from 08:00 to 14:00
• Closed on Sundays

 

ACTIVITIES AROUND DE RUST

One of the many attractions around De Rust is the world famous Cango Caves (35km) & the other the majestic ​Meiringspoort (2km). Fishing, mountain biking, bird watching and wine tasting are just some of the activities available nearby.

This quaint little town also forms part of the Route 62 that meanders from Cape Town through the wine valleys, Klein ​Karoo, Langkloof & beaches of Jeffreys Bay, Port Elizabeth & Addo National Park.
